International Buyer Guide
Everything you need to know before buying from a seller outside your country.
Buying an instrument from another country is exciting, and on Trad Market, it's designed to be straightforward. This guide answers the questions international buyers ask most often, so you know exactly what to expect before you check out.
How Much Will Shipping Cost?
Shipping costs vary depending on the size and weight of the instrument, the origin country, and the shipping carrier used. There are two ways a seller may offer shipping:
Flat Rate Shipping Some sellers set a fixed shipping price for domestic and/or international orders. You'll see this displayed clearly on the listing before you buy.
Calculated Shipping Other sellers use calculated shipping, where the cost is determined at checkout based on your location, the package dimensions, and live carrier rates. This ensures you pay an accurate rate rather than an inflated estimate.
> Tip: Always check the shipping section on a listing before purchasing. If you have questions about international shipping costs for a specific item, message the seller directly.
What Shipping Carrier Will Be Used?
Most sellers on Trad Market ship through our integrated shipping platform, which provides access to major international carriers such as FedEx and DHL. Some sellers may use their own preferred carrier. In either case, the seller is responsible for providing a valid tracking number within 3 business days of your purchase.
Once your item ships, you'll receive tracking information so you can follow your package every step of the way.
Why Did They Ask for My Tax ID Number?
Some countries require the shipper to provide the recipient's Tax ID number on the customs declaration in order to clear the package. This is a legal requirement in certain markets, not a Trad Market policy. If you're unsure whether your country requires one, check with your local customs authority.
Will I Pay Import Fees or Duties?
Import duties and customs fees may be charged by your country's customs authority and are not included in the price you pay at checkout on Trad Market. The amount varies based on your country's regulations and the declared value of the item. Check with your local customs authority before purchasing if you're unsure what fees may apply.
Can I Get Import Fees Refunded If I Return an Item?
Import duties and customs fees are collected by your government, not by Trad Market or the seller, and fall outside our refund system. However, many countries do refund import duties with proof of merchandise return. If you return an item and want to inquire about a potential duty refund, contact your shipping carrier. They can advise on whether a claim is possible with your local customs authority.
Will I Pay a Currency Conversion Fee?
Trad Market processes all payments in USD. If your card is issued in a different currency, your bank should handle the conversion at their prevailing rate and may charge a foreign transaction fee. Trad Market does not add any markup on currency conversion.
> Tip: To minimize conversion costs, consider using a card with no foreign transaction fees.
